Frank Armstrong is a Senior Lecturer in the Communication Design department at California State University, Chico. His research and teaching integrate music, as an acoustic time-space system, with information design and typography.
Frank received an MFA degree in Graphic Design from Yale University and a BA degree in Economics from UCLA. His design experience includes 20 years as a consultant and 15 years as an educator.
Frank’s professional work has been published in numerous books and journals, including Meggs’ History of Graphic Design and Rob Carter’s books American Typography Today and Typographic Design: Form and Communication. His essay “Hearing Type” was published in Loop, Baseline and Steven Heller’s book The Education of a Typographer. His Kinetic Typography course syllabus and assignments, coauthored with Barbara Sudick, will appear in Steven Heller’s new book Teaching Motion Design.
